Unless you've been living in a cave for the last few days the vExpert 2017 awards have been announced. To cut to the chase: not only were they foolish enough to let me in again, but the entire OpenTechCast crew were renewed back into the gang. For me, this was the second time in a row to be given this status, and I am still feeling incredibly honoured to be included with some folks I respect massively.

vExpert status is not a technical award, despite what some recruitment types seem to think. It's given for community contributions, and there are some folks out there putting out some truly amazing, high quality content. Always happy to give up their time to help to educate and evangelise for VMware and all of the other excellent vendors in the ecosystem.

Personally though: I feel incredibly proud that I managed to convince a chap I know from Twitter and met in person at VMworld in Barcelona to put in his application. At VMworld he took and didn't quite pass the VCP6-DCV exam and at a point he was quite down in the dumps, however between myself and a bunch of the other folks there we convinced him to not only pick himself up and go again, with some tips on exam prep but also to put himself forward for a couple of community awards. I'm proud as punch that Karl Widmer and his website Driftar.ch have earned not only vExpert status, but also Veeam Vanguard, and Karl has also taken over the leadership of the Swiss German VMware User Group. He's going to be a busy chap in the coming months...

(I look forward to celebrating all of the above in person soon!)
